My name is Sofia Birman, and I am a Scenographer. I am Russian, and live in Poland. I design costumes as well as sets for performances, and usually my inspiration comes from fashion, literature, paintings and sci-fi.
BRAVE NEW WORLD + LADY FROM THE SEA
BRAVE NEW WORLD: Collaboration with Laura Albeck a Costume Designer, Myself as a Set Designer, and Paul Goodwin the Director, and the head of MA Acting course at Drama Centre London. Brave New World is a compilation of scenes from four late Shakespeare's plays such as The Tempest, Winters Tale, Cymbeline and Pericles Prince of Tyre, that were focusing on the female characters of the play. It was performed in three different locations: Studio Theatre at Central Saint Martins, Crossing of the Granary Square Building, and Boris Shchukin Institute in Russia/Moscow.
LADY FROM THE SEA: Is a play written by Henrik Ibsen, and performed by third year BA Acting students of the Drama Centre London. A collaboration with Laura Albeck a Set Designer, Myself as a Costume Designer and Jonathan Humphreys the Director. It was performed in the Platform Theatre at Central Saint Martins. Lady From The Sea is based in Norway in the 40s, by the fjord. The main character Elida, that has married herself to the sea, is going through mental breakdowns, and is torn apart by a difficult decision whether to leave her husband and run away with the 'Stranger', or accept her destiny with her current husband.
